ISO 9001 Certificate ISO 14001 Certificate G&W Environmental Policy
G&W's quality management system has
been ISO 9001 certified since 1993, a record we are very proud
of. In the year 2000, ISO made dramatic changes to become
more customer focused in their quality system requirements
and procedures for certifying companies. In July, 2001
G&W became one of the first companies in our industry
to pass this new standard.
Our quality system was assessed by ABS Quality
Evaluations, Inc., a highly reputable registrar organization
and is applicable to the design and manufacture of high voltage
cable accessories, switchgear, overcurrent protection devices,
and non-ferrous castings.
What is ISO?
ISO is the International Organization for Standardization,
headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. To help support the
promotion of free trade between countries, ISO was originally
formed to establish an impartial system of quality standards
which all countries could recognize and accept. Presently,
experts from over 90 countries, including the United States,
work cooperatively to establish standards for businesses to
follow in their operations.
To
qualify for this prestigious certification, ISO first reviews
the documentation of a company's quality system. If the documentation
meets standards, an onsite, independent third party
audit is conducted which can typically take between two and
five days to complete. All employees, including all levels
of management, are fair game for auditor questions and analysis.
To qualify for registration, the auditor must verify first-hand
that the company's quality system complies with ISO standards
and is known and followed by employees. A company is typically
audited for recertification every 12 months. Since the
registration process is demanding and expensive, generally
only companies which can back up their commitment to quality
with effective systems are successful.
What does this mean
to me, the customer?
Working with an ISO registered company generally means
that you can feel comfortable that you are getting goods and
services which are manufactured to the highest quality standards.
Quality becomes more than just a word or goal, but is a proven,
documented, effective system which can produce repeatable
quality products. It is a world recognized symbol of excellence.
At G&W, it is just another step toward achieving total
customer satisfaction.
G&W
received their first ISO 14001 certification for their environmental
management system in January, 2002. "We are proud to
be among the first in our industry to meet this rigorous standard"
explains John H. Mueller, G&W President. "Considering
the complex environmental challenges of our manufacturing
processes, we consider this quite an accomplishment".
Since
their initial certification, G&W has successfully passed
their annual recertification third party audit including ISO's
latest 2004 revisions. According to Mr. Mueller, "We
hope our ISO 14001:2004 certification helps reinforce our
commitment to quality to our customers. In the near future
we also plan to integrate our Safety Management System. By
integrating quality, safety, and the environment, we hope
to improve process efficiencies, realize performance improvements,
improve safety of personnel, build public confidence, and
continually improve our customer satisfaction through clearly
defined processes, objectives and goals".
