EPOX® Cable Transition Modules

G&W EPOX cable transition modules provide an efficient method of connecting extruded dielectric cable using separable connectors to oil or gas filled paper insulated lead cable (PILC) for systems rated through 35kV. Various models permit either deadend or feedthrough of the PILC cable. Modules can accommodate both 200A or 600A bushing interfaces which conform to ANSI/IEEE 386 standards.


Features:

Application Versatility – Modules are rated for submersible vault or direct buried applications. A positive oil stop prevents migration of oil or gas from the PILC to extruded cable. Mounting brackets and complete splice kits are available.

Rugged construction using EPOX technology – G&W’s EPOX quality process uses time-proven epoxy resin to assure a void-free, extremely durable system impervious to environmental contamination. The epoxy system is UL listed and provides excellent mechanical and electrical properties, excellent fracture toughness, and outstanding thermal endurance.

For 15/25kV modules, the system ground shield is accomplished through the stress cone on the PILC cable to the permanently bonded, external semi-conducting coating of the module housing providing a fully shielded system.

For 35kV modules, an internal copper band around each interface point is carried through the module housing to the external semi-conducting coating providing a fully shielded system.

Tested Reliability – G&W transition modules are designed and tested to applicable sections of IEE 386, IEEE 592 and ANSI C199.4 standards. Production tests include X-ray, corona, withstand and pressure tests.

Cable Specifications
PILC cable: Oil or low pressure gas filled, paper insulated from #2 AWG – 1000 kcmil. High pressure oil cable available for 35kV only.

Extruded dielectric cable: Accommodates maximum size as allowed by elbow connector manufacturer.

Ordering Information
Specify the module number, conductor size of the PILC cable and any options required. Solder lugs will be drilled for specific cable or can be supplied with a 1⁄4” pilot hole.

Options

  1. Type “K” kit including module, copper wiping sleeve, solder lugs for each phase, mounting bracket and hardware.
  2. Type “JX” kit. Same as “K” kit except a bronze wiping flange replaces the copper wiping sleeve.
  3. Mounting bracket.
  4. PILC tape splice kits.
  5. Novoid A dielectric compound.
  6. Single phase models available through 15kV.
  7. Optional end caps to insulated PILC interface for future expansion or emergency jumper cable installation.
  8. Diverged bushings model at 35kV.
