Underground Switchgear: Subsurface/Vault Switchgear Overview
G&W offers a wide variety of subsurface/vault style underground switchgear for distribution systems rated 15.5 through 38kV, 900A continuous current. Subsurface vaults typically incorporate a single, top operable switch positioned just below ground level. Other vaults are constructed in different sizes to accommodate multiple equipment and associated components. Vaults can be dry or subject to flooding. Vault switches typically provide compact, submersible construction, cable entrance flexibility and a variety of system configurations. Subsurface/vault distribution switchgear is available in either SF6 gas or solid dielectric insulation. SF6 switchgear has been time proven for over 40 years while solid dielectric insulation is the industry’s latest switching insulation technology introduced by G&W over 10 years ago. Subsurface/vault style high voltage switchgear can be operated either manually, remotely from above ground or through various distribution automation packages.
